Castle Wind
Castle Wind Offshore is a proposed 1,000 MW floating offshore windfarm which will harvest the vast offshore wind resource of California’s coastlines to provide long-term economic and environmental benefits to the City of Morro Bay and San Luis and Obispo County.
Project Overview
By working with the local community, Castle Wind is laying the groundwork for an offshore wind farm off of the California Central Coast that will produce 1,000 megawatts of clean, renewable energy.
The project will utilize cutting-edge floating technology to support wind turbines in the deep waters off the coast, before interconnecting to the onshore grid.
Following a comprehensive and inclusive environmental review process, Castle Wind will harness this vast clean energy resource – offshore wind – for the benefit of San Luis Obispo County, and all Californians.
Reliable power. Reliable partners.
Castle Wind first saw the potential for harnessing Central Coast winds for clean, renewable power back in 2016 when our team submitted an unsolicited lease request to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) triggering a new offshore wind market in the U.S. In the years since, we’ve committed to working with all stakeholders to make our vision a reality.
Today, we have the local benefits agreement and stakeholder relationships in place to develop clean power for nearly 400,000 homes in San Luis Obispo County, reduce our statewide carbon emissions, and stand up a diverse workforce with economic opportunities on the Central Coast.
